NOT IMAGINED CARTOGRAPHY

The map as a “geographical object” is a source to verify urban developments. Both its selection and the construction of its growth is generally mediated through photographs or statistics that leave aside its sensitive treatment. This project deepens the relationships between textile, cartography and archives, based on the idea of the city as an expanded body in which the citizen is an active agent who generates connections from urban chaos. Through these textile maps I seek to raise awareness about the construction of the territory and urbanity, which is traversed by the informality resulting from migration, territorial conflicts or the desire for a better life.

Not imagined Cartography reconstructs the topographic map of Pasamayito, an informal “highway” that connects the districts of Comas and San Juan de Lurigancho.
